Become a Watchkeeper?
All of the training of our new volunteers is undertaken on the job at the Lookout and it is designed to be flexible and convenient for you. Watch hours are 0900-1300 and 1300-1700 from April to October inclusive, and 1000-1300 and 1300-1600 from November to March inclusive. We also provide daily evening watches from 1700 to 2000 in the Summer months of June, July, and August. We require two qualified Watch-keepers to be present on each watch period and we expect each volunteer, as far as possible, to complete a minimum average of two watches per month across the year. We also expect one additional evening watch per month during the busy summer months. You will also be required to wear the approved uniform when on duty.

The initial fundraising to refurbish and equip the watch station was very successful, thanks to the generosity of many individuals, companies, and other organisations. But although watchkeepers are unpaid volunteers, and as much installation and maintenance work as possible is done by team members, that still leaves substantial running costs to be met.

Since 2005, an energetic and imaginative group has organized fund raising and social activities for the NCI Froward Point station and its watchkeepers.

The local community has been hugely encouraging and supportive and there has been extensive press coverage of these functions.
